To Float or Not To Float!

Updated: May 7

Sensory deprivation or Float therapy has been around for a long time. In southern California where health and fitness rank near the top of peoples priorities you can find hard core floaters and businesses equally dedicated to float therapy. Floating is one of those experiences that you have in your life where you really love it or you really hate it. When i built Club Recharge and was training my staff, i told them that there wasn't much to learn about float therapy and even less salesmanship required. You will never convince a non-floater of the benefits of float tank therapy.

What is Float Therapy?

Float therapy is a zero-gravity environment that allows the mind and body to completely let go, relax, and reset. Using 1,000 pounds of Epsom Salts, the buoyancy of the water makes floating on water feel like floating on air. By eliminating the forces of gravity pulling on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, you can effortlessly relieve pain, relax, recover, and improve sleep in this unique state.

Float Therapy Benefits:

Flotation therapy (aka sensory deprivation) offers relief and benefits which are cumulative—they build on themselves with each subsequent session. We like to say “the more you float, the better it gets”, as floats themselves deepen beyond the first session. Though flotation is an “effortless” therapy, the body and mind actually learn how to relax into the float with each session.. Stress, tension and pain have formed over time and will take some time to experience the greatest relief—luckily, floating is a relaxing, fun,and effortless way to do so!

Epsom Salts are great for your skin, hair, nails, and act as an exfoliate. They aid in joint pain, ease stress, and naturally relax the body. 1,000 pounds of Epsom Salts help prevent inflammation in your joints and muscles and treat sprains, strains or sore muscles.

1000 pounds of salt in 180 gallons of water creates a 30% salt solution, enabling you to float effortlessly atop the water. This creates a deeply relaxing anti-gravity environment, as all weight and tension can be dropped; it’s even safe to fall asleep. There are no pressure points on the body in this state, which can provide up to 100% pain relief. The spine naturally elongates and straightens, and the body undergoes the same regeneration process that transpires during sleep.

An hour of zero gravity and zero distractions will decrease the production of cortisol, a stress hormone, leaving us feeling refreshed and serene after the float. The brain enters the theta brain-wave state, associated with deep sleep and dreaming. As all external sources of distraction are removed, floating provides an extreme form of rest. The skin temperature water feels like floating on a cloud or in outer space.

Why Club Recharge Added Float Therapy?

When i was researching all of the benefits of Float Therapy i was truly on the fence if i should add it or not. Then while i was in southern California testing all of the therapies for myself to see it from the customers perspective how a Club Recharge would feel, I ran across a video from a float therapy business, which to this day i can't remember their name. I saw how they were using float therapy and they had testimonials from their customers. I watched one video testimonial of a client with stage 4 liver cancer. The video brought tears to my eyes as i learned that this individual was using float therapy for 1 hour everyday, because he was in so much pain from the cancer. The quote that convinced me to add float therapy was "I have 1 hour a day of no pain and i spend the other 23 hours i look forward to that hour". From that moment on i knew that float therapy was going to fit into Club Recharge.
